New online portal
The Centre for Cultural Diversity in Ageing is pleased to announce the new Inclusive Service Standards Portal.
The new portal is designed to support aged care providers to self-assess against the Inclusive Service Standards, and to identify any gaps or areas for improvement.
The platform offers tip sheets for each Performance Measure with suggested actions and strategies on how you can make your service more inclusive. It highlights where each Performance Measure ties back into the Aged Care Quality Standards. It also provides a range of diversity and inclusion practice guides, training videos and policy templates.
The Inclusive Service Standards provide a framework for aged care organisations wanting to ensure their services are inclusive for all consumers.
The Centre is offering online sessions to organisations wishing to learn about how to use the portal and information about implementing the Inclusive Service Standards.

Launch of Multilingual Older Persons COVID-19 Support Line
The Centre for Cultural Diversity in Ageing is pleased to be supporting the Multilingual Older Persons COVID-19 Support Line.
The support line is funded by the Australian Department of Health, and is an Australia-wide initiative that provides in-language information and support associated with COVID-19, and referrals to appropriate services and programs for older Australians from culturally diverse backgrounds.
The support line is available in Arabic, Cantonese, Greek, Italian, Mandarin and Vietnamese. All calls are free, 2:00pm - 5:00pm (Melbourne time) Monday to Friday (except public holidays).

Consumer Feedback Form in
12 languages
The Centre for Cultural Diversity in Ageing has developed a Consumer Feedback Form for use by aged care providers as an easy and accessible way for consumers, family members, representatives and others to provide feedback to the service.
The form is in bilingual format and available in Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Croatian, English, German, Greek, Italian, Macedonian, Maltese, Polish, Russian and Vietnamese.

Communication Cards and Aged Care Signage expanded to 57 languages
The Centre's very popular Communication Cards and Aged Care Signage have been updated to include 20 new languages.
These include: Amharic, Assyrian, Bengali, Burmese, Chaldean, Danish, Dari, Dinka, Karen, Latvian, Lithuanian, Nepali, Oromo, Pashtun, Punjabi , Slovenian, Somali, Tetum, Thai and Tigrinya.

New Practice Guides
Check out the Centre's two new Practice Guides aimed at supporting aged care providers to meet the needs of consumers from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds:
1. Digital Inclusion - An overview of the issues faced by older people in accessing digital technology and key considerations in improving digital connectedness.
2. Culturally Inclusive Feedback - Strategies for ensuring that consumer feedback mechanisms are culturally inclusive.

Culturally inclusive data collection |
|
|
|
|
|
|
What data are you collecting about your consumers?
Delivery of culturally inclusive aged care relies on collection of relevant data form your consumers. The minimal core set of cultural and language indicators proposed by the Australian Bureau of Statistic are: country of birth of person; main language other than English spoken at home; proficiency in spoken English; Indigenous status. In the case of aged care data sets, it is important to note that ‘Indigenous status’ is to be collected in its own right and not as part of the CALD group. A standard core set of cultural and language indicators proposed are; the minimum core set of cultural and language indicators and; ancestry (a self-assessed measure of ethnicity and cultural background, identifying a person’s origins and heritage; country of birth of father; country of birth of mother; first language spoken; languages spoken at home; main language spoken at home; religious affiliation; year of arrival in Australia.
